Why List Your Business on My West Bengal (and What It Will Not Do)

A free listing will not make you famous overnight. What it gives you is a proper home on the internet, which is the thing most small businesses in Bengal are missing.

A customer messages a home cook in Krishnanagar: “What is on the menu this week? And the price?”

She types it all out. Then again for the next customer, and the one after that. By Friday she has typed the same week’s menu fourteen times.

Most small businesses in West Bengal live on WhatsApp forwards and word of mouth. That works, until a customer wants to check your prices before calling, a new neighbour wants to know if you deliver to their lane, or you want to put a link in your Google profile and realise you have nothing to link to. That is the gap a listing here fills.

What you get

A page of your own, with a link you can share

Every approved business gets its own page, at an address made from your name and town, such as mywestbengal.in/businesses/didi-rannaghar-krishnanagar. It shows what you do, your area, your address and hours if customers visit, and big Call and WhatsApp buttons.

Use that link as your website. Put it in the website field of your Google Business Profile, in your Instagram bio, in your WhatsApp Business profile, on your visiting card. When you paste it into a chat, it shows your name and what you do.

Found by district and category

Your listing sits in the directory under your district (all 23), your town and your category, from electricians to home-cooked food. Customers pick “Caterers” and “Nadia”, and you are there with your number one tap away.

Free, with no commission

No listing fee, no charge per call, no cut of your orders. Customers call or WhatsApp you directly; we are not in the middle. You do not even need an account to register: once your listing is approved, we make one with your email so you can manage it.

Checked by a person

Every listing is read by a person before it goes live, usually within a few days. That keeps out fake numbers and spam, which is why customers can trust the rest of the list.

What it will not do

We would rather tell you now than have you find out later.

  • It will not put you at the top of Google. Nobody can promise that, and anyone who does is selling something. For “near me” searches, the listing that matters most is your own free Google Business Profile.
  • Your page is built for sharing, not for Google search. For now we keep individual business pages out of Google’s index: My West Bengal is a young site, and we do not want to fill Google with hundreds of one-listing pages before the directory is full. Customers reach your page from your link, from the directory and from the places you put the link.
  • It does not replace WhatsApp. It sends people to your WhatsApp. Set up WhatsApp Business so that you are ready when they arrive.
  • We do not check licences or qualifications. A listing says you exist and how to reach you, not that we recommend you.

Where it fits

Think of your online presence as a few free pieces that point at each other, with the same name, number and address on all of them: your Google Business Profile brings people from search and Maps; WhatsApp Business is where they talk to you; Facebook and Instagram show your work; and a My West Bengal page holds your menu or prices and works as the website link for all three. Our guide to free business listings has the full list, in order.

  1. Register

Fill in the free form (or the Bengali form): business name, what you do, district, town and phone number. About two minutes.

  2. Wait for the check

A person reviews it, usually within a few days. You do not need to do anything.

  3. Add your menu or prices

Sign in with the account we create for you and fill in your menu, prices and hours.

  4. Put the link everywhere

Google Business Profile, Instagram bio, WhatsApp Business profile, visiting card, the QR code on your counter.

Questions people ask

Will it ever cost money?

The basic listing stays free. We may offer optional paid extras later, such as photos, but you will never be charged for anything you did not ask for.

I offer two services. Do I register twice?

Yes, once for each category with the same mobile number, for example once as an electrician and once as a plumber. Each appears under its own category.

Who can see my phone number?

Anyone who opens the directory or your page, since that is how customers reach you. Use a number you are happy to be called on. Your email is never shown.

I am a private tutor. Is this for me?

Tutors have their own directory: list yourself in the teacher directory instead. Coaching centres belong here, under Coaching centres.

Myth or fact?

Tap a claim to see the answer.

“A small business needs a paid website to look serious online.”
Myth

A free Google Business Profile and one page with your menu or prices and your number cover what most local customers look for.

“Free listings make money by selling your number.”
Partly true

Some do push paid plans after a free listing. Here your number is shown so customers can call you, your email is never shown, and there is no fee or commission.

Now tell people you exist

List your shop, kitchen or service in the My West Bengal directory. It is free, it gets you a page of your own with your menu or prices, and customers call or WhatsApp you directly.

Send this to someone

Tired of typing your menu into WhatsApp fourteen times a week? A free My West Bengal page holds it, and you send the link instead.
